Primary Leiomyosarcom of the Lung

Abstract
The incidence of leiomyosarcoma is very low and as a primary lung tumor, it is extremely rare. A search of the literature revealed only about 30 cases. We believe that the case to be reported is the first to be treated by lobectomy in Korea.
The patient was 56 year old house wife the had been well until 8 months prior to admission, when she developed productive cough, dull pain in left lower cheft, mild dyspnea and weight loss, the positive signs of physical examination wrre dullness and several rales in the left lower chest.
At bronchoscopy, the left basilar bronchial lumens showed narrowing by extrinsic pressure but no intraluminal lesion found. Bronchial biopsy and cytology of the bronchial washing reported benign.
At thoracotomy, rather well circumscribed tumor was found in left lower lobe and no regional adhesion or metastasis were found grossly. Left lower lobectomy was carried out without difficulty and the postoperative course was uneventful. Patholcgy reported as primary leiomyosarcoma of the lung.
She died 9 months after surgery from recurrence of the disease in left upper lobe of the lung and in mediastinum.
